Battlebots Camp

Recommended Ages 8-13

For a whole week we will work in teams to design and build a working remote controlled robot. We will add various kinetic weapons. The end of the week will feature epic battles that parents might not want to miss.

We will learn the basics of electronics and robotics using soldering Irons, laser cuttters and 3d printers

Note: Battlebots will be disassembled following the camp, for use in our ongoing weekly programs. TTL teaches kids to reduce, re-use, and recycle parts into new projects!

Day 1 - Monday

Transmitters and Receivers. Electronic Basics, Soldering

We will spend the day learning the basics of electrical circuits, motors and eventurally learning to operate the remote control boards. The afternoon will cover gears

Day 2 - Tuesday

Robots and Cad design. 3D printind and Laser cutting.

We will begin the morning with a lesson on the use of 3d printers, the software used to create 3d objects as well as the program used to slice the 3d object into layers.

The afternoon will have kids learning 2d modeling and use of laser cutters and engravers.

Day 3 - Wednesday

Design and Build – Electronics, 3d printing, laser cutting and CAD Design

The kids will be separated into 2 groups and will start to design and plan the building of remote controlled robots. By the end of the day the robot should either be able to move or only require 3d prints to be completed to do so.

Day 4 - Thursday

Attack and Defence – Design, 3d printing, Laser cutting and Electronics

Additional design features will be added to allow the robots to compete against one another in a specific arena. A strategy for competition should be under way. Kids will have all day to experiment and build.

Day 5  - Friday

The kids will have the morning to finish and decorate the robots, Create the arena, Add features to it

The afternoon kids will practice controlling the robot and completing a number of challenges.

At 3:30 We will begin our main event and the robots will be pitted against each other in a battle

to the finish. Parents will not want to miss it, but maybe bring ear protection. It gets LOUD.

About Kids Camps at TTLMakerspace

We love our young makers at TTLMakerspace, and run kids programs all year long for our active members. Our summer camps provide the opportunity for curious young builders to have a very hands-on experience mastering tools both traditional and high-tech.
