Comprehensive Lathe May 5 [Sundays 4 Week Intensive]

This class is designed for those wishing to advance their skills from novice on a wood lathe. Class sizes are small so you will get a lot of time on one of our multiple lathes. Projects will range from small fountain pens, progressing to bowls and platters with an emphasis on safety.

The TTL Makerspace is a thriving community of like minded makers and the perfect place to develop a foundation in shop safety and etiquette. We will try to spend most of the class on the lathe with students taking turns on our different machines.

Schedule:

Four three-hour weekly classes, Sundays 2pm to 5pm

Outcomes:

At the end of this course you will have experienced the following:

• Complete understanding of the anatomy of a lathe
• Experience with a variety of turning tools
• Use of an array of lathe accessories
• Preparation of blanks
• Use of mandrels and inserts
• Experience with a variety of woods
• Turning spindles
• Turning bowls and platters

Following the course, you’ll be able to use both Craftex and Coronet Herald lathes at TTLMakerspace with your active membership. And you’ll be able to join the active group of Makers sharing knowledge in our Discord community.
