Cosplay and LARP
At the TTL Makerspace we believe that learning should be fun, safe and fun!
We will begin the week with a study of design before dividing in to two or more teams both deciding what kind of theme they want to cosplay. We will design our cosplay, create it as well as personalize it. With a heavy emphasis on safety, we will empower kids with the confidence and skills needed to use tools and equipment in a community makerspace.
We will learn to design and build a cosplay incorporating sewing, Leatherworking, Woodworking,3d printing, laser cutting and electronics.
Note: Cosplay can be taken home. TTL teaches kids to reduce, re-use, and recycle parts into new projects!
Design using cad software and laser cutters
The kids will brainstorm what type of army they want to pick as teams. Each cosplay will be able to be personalised but all require matching Helmets and Shields plus a sword/axe/spear ect... No Projectiles!
In the afternoon the kids will learn basic cad modeling on laser control software and will be able to design a foam helmet and decorate it.
Accessories using 3d printers
We will allow the kids to create harmless larp weapons or accessories using the shop 3d printers as well as the laser cutters
Kids will learn tinkercad to create a 3d design then learn to slice 3d files before learning to understand and operate the 3d printers
Shields using the wood shop.
Under strict supervision the kids will learn how to use the Miter saw, Drill press, Band Saw, Sander, Nail gun and drill. The morning will be shop training. The afternoon will have the kids designing and building shields using their newly aquired skills.
Sewing and leather-working.
The kids will decide what accessories will make their cosplays complete. Morning will consist of learning to use a sewing machine and basic use of grommets, rivets and buckles.
The afternoon will have the kids create their personal customisation such as belts or gauntlets.
Morning will consist of assembling the pieces, Final fitting and adjustments.
During lunch we will go to the park and film some slow motion live action roleplay battles.
There will be no use of full force or full speed. Damaged cosplays will be repaired and the kids will have time to make final use of the makerspace before 3:30 when we will have a photo shoot. Parents are invited to spectate
