The Science of FUN
Recommended Ages 8-11
While we prioritise safety - we want to empower kids! We equip youths with the knowledge and guidance needed to safely create in a community makerspace environment. With close supervision, kids will use various tools and technology including Laser Cutters, 3d Printers, and Electronics.
Day 1 - Monday
Plasma Cannons - science skills
The group will learn about blast effects, energy release and material behaviour while working as a group to create working plasma cannons. These will create an incredible pyrotechnic display while being completely harmless. These will be dismantled at the end of the day.
Day 2 - Tuesday
Bottle Rockets and a Launcher - design and tool use
Building a bottle rocket offers a hands-on, engaging way to explore fundamental physics concepts and provides a fun and educational activity. It's a great way to see how forces, like the release of compressed air or water, can propel an object into the air.
The rockets spray water everywhere so we may need to move this activity to a day with accommodating weather. We will go to the park at lunch to launch our rockets.

Day 3 - Wednesday
Spy Telescope - science, STEM, tool use
Building a telescope provides hands-on experience with optics, STEM concepts, and the principles of how telescopes work. Students will experiment with different lenses then design and create a telescope
Day 4 - Thursday
Sleeve Water Pistols and Decoder Wheels.
The morning will be spent designing and building quick deploying fire suppression (water) pistols that strap to your wrist for efficiency. These will be tested at the park during lunch. The afternoon will have the kids create their own secret encryption device.
Day 5 - Friday
Remote Controlled Bomb Disarming Robot - robotics
The kids will have all day to design and build a robot that will allow them to disable a special surprise. They will rely on the skills they have accumulated over the week to problem solve as a group.
About Kids Camps at TTLMakerspace
We love our young makers at TTLMakerspace, and run kids programs all year long for our active members. Our summer camps provide the opportunity for curious young builders to have a very hands-on experience mastering tools both traditional and high-tech.
